What Chapters does
Chapters is a camera for a celebration. A host creates a chapter, guests take photos and optional voice notes during the event, and the album opens after a reveal time. People in that chapter can comment on and love snaps.
Information we collect
- Email address, so we can send a one-time login code and keep your account.
- Name, gender, and profile photo, which you enter and which other people in your chapters can see.
- Photos, optional voice notes, captions, comments, and loves that you add to a chapter.
- Chapter details you create: name, time, invite code, and the settings for filters and shots.
- A guest email, if you join a chapter before creating a full profile.
The app asks for the camera and the microphone only so you can take the photo and the optional voice note. It does not ask for your location, contacts, phone number, or advertising ID. Choosing a profile photo uses the Android photo picker. We do not run ads and we do not use an analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
Why we use it
We use this information to create your account, send login and account-deletion codes, host the chapter, show snaps to the people in that chapter, and keep the service secure. We do not sell personal information.
Who else sees it
People who joined the same chapter can see the snaps, voice notes, captions, comments, name, and profile photo you share there. Login and deletion codes are delivered by a Google Firebase function in asia-south1, which sends the email through Gmail. That function receives the email address and the code for the purpose of delivering the message. Our own server stores the account and the media.
How long we keep it
A chapter album stops opening in the app when its gallery window ends. That window is three days after the reveal time unless the host changes the chapter. The files stay on our server until the account or the hosted chapter is deleted. One-time codes expire after five minutes and are then discarded. We do not keep a separate marketing list.
Security
The app and the website talk to the API over HTTPS. The app stores the login token in the device secure storage. We do not use a password.
Account and data deletion
You can delete your account in the app under Settings, or without the app at chapters.today/account-deletion. Deletion removes your profile, the chapters you host (including snaps other guests added in those chapters), and the snaps, voice notes, captions, comments, and reactions you added to other chapters. Snaps other people added to chapters you do not host stay in those chapters.
Children
Chapters is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. The app is not directed at children.
Your requests
Email contact@detailedthought.com to ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion. If you are in India, you can use this contact to raise a request about your personal data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
